Driver Education Overview

Because of the new state requirements for obtaining your license it is important for you to begin driving school between 15 years and 9 months and reaching your 16th birthday if you want to get your license at sixteen and half.  The state now requires twelve on road lessons, scheduled one a week, this will take you approximately three months.  Classroom can be completed in one, two or three week sessions.  On- road lessons are scheduled around your schedule. We will pick-up you from home, school or work, whatever fits into your schedule.  Upon completion of your 48 hour program a certificate of completion will be sent for from the RMV in Boston.  This usually takes approx. 5 working days.  Then if you have held your permit for 6 months with no motor vehicle infractions you may schedule a driving exam.

Driver Education Minimum Requirements:

No one may begin driving school classes before they reach the age of 15 years and 9 months (MA Law 3-31-07)  A student must attend 30 hours of classroom instruction and complete 18 hours in the driving school vehicle.  The motor vehicle training consists of 12 hours of instruction behind the wheel and 6 hours of observing other students.

You are required to sign- in at each classroom session.  If you miss a class, you are required to make-up the exact class session you missed in a future class session.

You may schedule your on-road driving lessons upon completion of your thirty - hour class and passing the final exam with a grade of 80% or better.

Parent Class:

A new requirement of driver education will be a two - hour class for parents/guardians.  The intention of this class is to educate parents about the content of the DRIVER EDUCATION curriculum, the new JOL laws and the driving skills and behaviors their students will be learning.  It is important for parents to know the skills and behaviors that they should model while driving so they can mentor their students to be safe and skilled drivers.
